Privacy Policy

Effective 28 October 2026

Country Detective (spintheglobes.com) is a free geography game. There are no ads, no purchases, no chat between players and no tracking tools. This page explains exactly what the site keeps and why.

Playing without an account

Anyone can play without signing up. When you do, nothing about you is saved on our server. Your browser itself remembers a few settings so the game works the way you left it:

These stay on your device. You can clear them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

If you create an account

An account is only needed to save scores and appear in the ranking. We keep:

WhatWhy
Email address (email sign-up only)To log you in. It is never shown to other players or sent to anyone.
PasswordStored only as a one-way scrambled code (scrypt hash). We cannot read it.
NicknameShown next to your score in the ranking. Please use a made-up name, not a real name.
Google account ID and name (Google sign-in only)To recognise you when you log in. In the ranking, the name is partly hidden (for example "J***n").
Scores, number of questions and the date and time of each gameFor your daily records and the ranking.

A small login cookie keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. It is not used for anything else.

Language requests

If you use "Request a language", we keep the language you asked for, your message and, only if you choose to give one, an email address so we can reply.

Children

The game is made for children and families. Children can play fully without an account, and we encourage that. To create an account, a player must be 13 or older, or have a parent or guardian's permission. A parent can ask us to delete a child's account at any time (see below).

Who else sees data

Keeping and deleting data

Account data is kept until the account is deleted. Any player can delete their own account and all their scores at once: log in, open "My records", then choose "Delete account". Language requests are deleted once they have been handled.

Contact

For questions or a deletion request, use the "Request a language" button on the game page and write your message there (you can add an email address for a reply).

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
